The Inn Cycle Path combines stunning Alpine scenery with historic towns and tranquil river meadows. Depending on the cycle tour you choose, you’ll follow the River Inn from Tyrol via Kufstein to Bavaria and on towards Passau. Along the way, you’ll discover well-known places such as Innsbruck, Rosenheim, Wasserburg, Mühldorf am Inn and Passau, the ‘city of three rivers’.

The Inn Cycle Path is mostly easy to moderate:
- mostly flat to gently undulating stretches along the River Inn
- well-maintained and mostly signposted cycle paths
- tarmac cycle paths, paved riverside paths and quiet back roads
- Daily stages usually range from 30 to 70 km, depending on the itinerary
The route runs downstream for long stretches. However, there may be the occasional short incline, varying surfaces and sections away from the banks of the Inn.
Best time of year to cycle the Inn Cycle Path
The best time of year for a cycling holiday along the Inn is from April or May to October:
- April to June: lush riverside landscapes, flowering meadows and pleasant temperatures
- July and August: long days and lively towns and stop-off points
- September and October: quieter cycle paths, clear visibility and atmospheric autumnal landscapes
May, June and September often offer particularly pleasant conditions for cycle touring. In spring, the weather and snow conditions in higher-altitude starting regions can play a role. The actual available departure dates therefore depend on the specific tour description.
Early booking is recommended for public holidays, school holidays and popular weekend dates.
Duration
Depending on the tour option you choose, your cycling holiday on the Inn Cycle Path will last between 5 and 12 days. You can choose from shorter tours covering selected sections as well as longer cycling trips along the Inn. Depending on the section you choose, the Inn Cycle Path is mostly easy to moderate. Many sections run close to the river, downstream, and without long climbs. However, there may be a few short climbs, varying surfaces, and longer daily stages. A normal level of fitness and confidence riding a bicycle are recommended.
Depending on the cycle tour you have booked, the daily stages are usually between around 30 and 70 kilometres. On more leisurely tours, the daily distances are shorter, whilst more challenging tours may involve longer stages. The route mainly follows developed cycle paths, paved riverside paths and quiet back roads. Many sections are tarmacked, whilst others follow easily navigable natural and gravel paths. There may be short stretches through built-up areas or on roads with moderate traffic.

- Mühldorf am Inn with its town square
- the world’s longest castle complex in Burghausen, provided it is part of the route

The entire Inn Cycle Path follows the river from its Alpine source in the Swiss Engadin through Austria to where it flows into the Danube at Passau. Organised cycling tours often cover selected sections, for example from Innsbruck via Kufstein and Wasserburg to Passau. The start and end points depend on the package booked.
The Tyrolean Inn Valley combines stunning mountain panoramas with historic towns and a comparatively pleasant route along the river. Between Innsbruck and Kufstein, cycling holidaymakers pass through Hall in Tirol, Schwaz and Rattenberg, amongst other places. The blend of Alpine scenery, culture and regional cuisine makes this section particularly varied.
