Route tours – from place to place

On a multi-stage tour, you cycle to a new destination each day and stay in different accommodation each night. Your luggage is conveniently transported to the next hotel. Return transfers to the starting point are either included as standard, depending on the tour, or can be booked as an optional extra.

Popular examples include Passau–Vienna on the Danube Cycle Path, Salzburg–Grado on the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path, or tours along the Adige from Lake Reschen towards Lake Garda.

Circular tours – starting and finishing at the same place

A circular tour takes you back to your starting point in several stages. This makes getting there and back easier and is particularly handy if you’re travelling by car.

You’ll find popular circular routes in the Salzkammergut and around Lake Constance, amongst other places.

Centre cycle tours – one hotel, lots of cycle tours

Would you like to cycle without having to change hotels every day? Then our centre cycle tours are ideal. Throughout your cycling holiday, you’ll stay at a carefully selected local hotel and set off from there on varied day trips. This way, you’ll discover new landscapes every day and return to your familiar hotel in the evening, feeling completely relaxed.

The best time of year for cycling holidays in Europe

The peak season for cycling holidays in Europe runs from April to October:

  • April to June: mild temperatures and landscapes in bloom
  • July and August: long days and ideal conditions for regions with lakes or rivers
  • September and October: pleasant temperatures, the grape harvest and peaceful autumn days

The months of May to September are particularly suitable for Alpine regions. Southern destinations such as Italy, France or Portugal often offer good conditions from spring right through to late autumn.

Frequently asked questions about organised cycling tours

Depending on the package, accommodation, breakfast, travel documents, navigation and luggage transport are included. You can also book rental bikes, e-bikes, half-board, extra nights and other services. You can find the exact inclusions for each cycling tour under the ‘Included Services’ tab.

For point-to-point and circular tours, please leave your luggage at reception or at the agreed collection point in the morning. It will be transported to your next accommodation during the day and will be waiting for you there. You’ll be cycling with just a light day pack.

Most of the tours are self-guided cycling trips. This means you decide on the pace, when to take breaks and which sights to visit. Maps, detailed route information and, depending on the tour, a navigation app or GPS data will guide you along the way.

New from 2027: guided cycling tours along the Danube will be offered on selected dates.

On a point-to-point cycle tour, you change location every day and end the trip at a different destination. A circular cycle tour takes you back to your starting point after several stages. On a centre cycle tour, you stay in a hotel for the entire trip and go on a different cycle excursion every day.

Bear in mind the daily mileage, the terrain and the duration of each stage. River cycle routes, such as the Danube Cycle Route, are often suitable for beginners and leisure cyclists. Alpine routes may require a higher level of fitness. Our team will be happy to advise you personally.

On our cycling holidays, you can book touring bikes and e-bikes as an extra. The hire bike is usually provided at the starting point. As the number of e-bikes available may be limited, we recommend booking one when you book your holiday.

It is also possible to bring your own bike on our tours. Please note the relevant options for travel to the starting point, bike storage and return transport. For rail journeys (e.g. the return journey to the starting point), a booking for your bike is often required.

With many of our packages, it is possible to book extra nights at the starting point or destination. This allows you to make your journey there a bit more relaxed or to extend your cycling holiday. You can find information on availability in the details of each package or by contacting our customer service team for personalised advice.

Among the most popular cycling destinations are the Danube Cycle Route from Passau to Vienna, the Salzkammergut Cycle Route, the Lake Constance Cycle Route, the Adige Cycle Route and the Alpe-Adria Cycle Route. Other well-known routes include the Tauern Cycle Route, the Moselle Cycle Route, the Inn Cycle Route and the Baltic Sea Cycle Route.

As you’re travelling independently, you can plan your departure time and breaks flexibly. On some routes, you can take a shortcut by using public transport for certain sections. However, weatherproof clothing should always be part of any cycle tour.

Yes. If you book up to 60 days before arrival, you’ll receive an early-booking discount of up to 10 per cent on cycling tours marked as such.
