The Moselle Cycle Path in Germany runs from the Roman city of Trier via Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach and Cochem to Koblenz. Cycling along the Moselle, you’ll pass through steep vineyards, picturesque river bends and romantic wine villages – the route is predominantly flat and you can cycle at your own pace.

Level of difficulty & stages
The Moselle Cycle Path is mainly flat and pleasant to cycle along:
- mostly tarmac or well-surfaced cycle paths
- the route runs mainly close to the river
- hardly any long inclines
- Daily stages usually between 35 and 65 km, depending on the itinerary
- ideal for leisure cyclists, beginners and e-bike riders
Short climbs may occur on detours to castles, viewpoints or through the vineyards.
Best time of year to visit the Moselle Cycle Route
The best time for a cycling holiday along the Moselle is from April to October:
- April to June: blossoming countryside and mild temperatures
- July and August: long days and bustling wine-growing villages
- September and October: the grape harvest and golden vineyards
May, June and September are particularly popular. During the grape harvest and at public holidays, it is advisable to book well in advance.

Depending on your itinerary, you’ll set off from Perl or Trier and cycle via Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach and Cochem to the mouth of the Moselle in Koblenz.
The Moselle Cycle Path is predominantly flat and runs mostly right alongside the river. This makes it ideal for leisure cyclists, beginners and e-bike riders. Only detours to castles or viewpoints may involve additional inclines.
Depending on the tour, the daily stages are usually between 30 and 60 kilometres. You cycle at your own pace and can decide for yourself when to take breaks and which sights to visit.
The Trier–Koblenz section is considered a classic. It links the Roman city of Trier with well-known wine-growing towns such as Bernkastel-Kues and Cochem, as well as the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz. Those with more time to spare can start as far as Metz and explore three countries by bike.
Among the main highlights are the Porta Nigra in Trier, the half-timbered old town of Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem Castle and the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz. Vineyards, castles and the meandering Moselle characterise the entire route.
Yes, the Moselle Cycle Route is ideal for e-bikes. The route is mostly flat, and there are charging facilities in the towns along the route, depending on your accommodation. Rental bikes and e-bikes can be booked as part of all our tours.

As you’ll be travelling independently, you can organise your departure time and breaks to suit you. Depending on the location of each stage, train connections may be available in some cases. You should nevertheless pack weatherproof cycling gear.
