Cycling holidays with luggage transport
On our route-based and circular tours, your luggage is reliably transported from one accommodation to the next. You cycle with just a light day pack and will find your suitcases waiting for you at the next stop on the route.
On radial cycling tours, your luggage remains at your base hotel for the duration of the trip.
Independent cycling
Most cycling holidays in Austria are self-guided rather than in a guided group. You set your own pace, decide when to take breaks and choose which sights to visit. Detailed travel documents, as well as maps, GPS data or a navigation app, will help you along the way.
Selected accommodation
Depending on the tour, you’ll stay in carefully selected hotels, inns or guesthouses. Many packages offer a choice of different comfort levels and hotel categories.

Levels of difficulty
Austria offers cycling tours to suit a range of abilities:
- Easy: predominantly flat or gently sloping routes, for example along the Danube Cycle Path between Passau and Vienna, as well as on selected sections around the Carinthian lakes
- Moderate: occasional climbs and varied stages, such as on the Salzkammergut Cycle Route, the Tauern Cycle Route, the Mur Cycle Route or the Inn Cycle Route
- Challenging: longer climbs, greater elevation gain or more demanding daily distances, for example on selected sections of the Enns Cycle Route or on alpine routes
Depending on the trip, the daily stages are usually between 30 and 70 kilometres. A good level of basic fitness and regular cycling experience are an advantage. All tours are also suitable for e-bikes.
The best time of year for a cycling holiday in Austria
The cycling season in Austria generally runs from April to October:
- April to June: mild temperatures and blossoming countryside
- July and August: long days and ideal conditions for cycling trips around lakes
- September and October: clear mountain views, the grape harvest and peaceful autumn days
The Danube Cycle Path is often easily cycleable from as early as April. May to September are generally the best months for alpine regions and higher-altitude routes. In southern Austria, depending on the weather, tours are also possible well into October.
