Day 1 - Individual arrival in Schweinfurt
You will start your cycling holiday at the Main Cycle Path in the former imperial city of Schweinfurt. The first overnight stay at your tour will be in a comfortable middle class hotel.Day 2 - From Schweinfurt to Sommerach, approx. 40 km
The first stage of your cycling holiday will take you along vineyards through the Volkacher Mainschleife into the heart of the Franconian wine region. Sommerach awaits you with baroque townhouses, decorated wineries and the winegrower's cellar, the oldest Franconian winegrowers cooperative.Day 3 - From Sommeracht to Ochsenfurt/Sommerhausen, approx. 35-45 km
Today's tour on the Main Cycle Path will take you to the town of Dettelbach. Take some time for a stroll through the old town with the almost entirely preserved city wall, little towers and picturesque houses. You will cycle to Ochsenfurt, passing the towns of Kitzingen and Marktbreit.Day 4 - From Ochsenfurt/Sommerhausen to Karlstadt, approx. 45 km
You will continue your tour through Eibelstadt and Randersacker. Already since 779 AD wine is cultivated in that region. Following the cycle path alongside famous wine estates such as Teufelskeller, Marsberg and Sonnenstuhl to Würzburg. The town square, the town hall, the old bridge over the Main, the Lady Chapel with sandstone figures and the former prince-bishop residence invite you for a visit. Today's destination is Karlstadt.Day 5 - From Karlstadt to Homburg, approx. 60 km
Today the landscape will slowly change along your biking route – the characteristic winegrowing landscape will switch to shady forests. To shorten todays tour you have the possibility to take the train for some part of the route (Karlstadt-Gemünden in only 10 minutes or Karlstadt-Lohr in only 25 minutes). Visit the fairytale-like historic old town of Lohr, before the tour takes you directly along the Main to the romantic wine village of Homburg.Day 6 - From Homburg to Bürgstadt, approx. 45 km
Passing Wertheim with its graceful timbered houses and winding streets, you will cycle most of the time directly on the bank of the Main and can enjoy the nature. Starting in Bürgstadt you will see more and more wine, where red-wine grapes are ripping. At the end of today's stage you should treat yourself with a stroll through the beautiful wine village and taste some of the delicacies.Day 7 - From Bürgstadt to Aschaffenburg, approx. 45 km
After a short stage you will reach Miltenberg with its wonderful marketplace and charming small half-timbered houses. Afterwards the cycle path is taking you to Großheubach, parallel to the red-wine-hiking-path. In this area the wines grow mostly on steep mottled sandstone terraces, which is the base for the noble grape wines such as Blauer Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Portugieser or St. Laurent. Following the flat cycle path from Klingenberg you will reach the sandstone castle Johannisburg in Aschaffenburg.Day 8 - Individual departure or extra nights
Return from your cycling holidays by train or by bus from Aschaffenburg to Schweinfurt (every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 9 am, duration approx. 2hrs) please see rates below for more details.
