Your mountain biking holiday in Austria starts in Bad Goisern, the most famous mountain biking destination in the Salzkammergut region. You'll check into your room at a traditional country hotel. A first stroll through idyllic Goisern or a glass of wine in a beer garden will perfectly set the mood for the days ahead.

Right at the start of this mountain bike tour on the Dachstein circuit, the route climbs towards the Pötschen Pass. Once at the top, the first spectacular view of Lake Hallstatt and the Dachstein peaks unfolds. After a rapid descent into the Styrian Salzkammergut region, culinary breaks beckon in Bad Aussee or Bad Mitterndorf – perhaps with freshly caught char or a Styrian cheese platter. Then comes the challenging climb to the Viehbergalm, the highest point of the circuit. A cold beer tastes especially good as a reward at the Ritzinger Hütte before you descend through the impressive Öfen gorges to Gröbming. Alternative route: From Bad Mitterndorf, follow the B145 to Trautenfels, then continue upstream along the Enns Cycle Path to Gröbming (-700 m elevation loss).
Example of hotel: Hotel Amadeus in GröbmingDay 3 - From Gröbming to Annaberg, approx. 80 km, approx. 2.300 ad
This stage of the Dachstein Circuit mountain bike tour leads up to Ramsau am Dachstein after a warm-up ride in the Enns Valley. Mountain biking directly alongside the imposing south faces of the Dachstein is a truly exhilarating experience for all cyclists. The descent into the romantic village of Filzmoos rewards riders with both flow and enjoyment. Here, you can indulge in Salzburg delicacies such as Kasnocken (cheese dumplings) or Bauernkrapfen (farmer's doughnuts). Refreshed, the route continues up to the Langeggsattel pass before a rapid descent to Annaberg. Alternative route: From Ramsau, follow the L711 to Filzmoos (-300 m elevation loss).
Example of hotel: Sporthotel Dachstein West in AnnabergDay 4 - Annaberg – Bad Goisern, approx. 70 km, approx. 2.000 ad, individual departure
On the last day of the Dachstein Circuit MTB tour, you'll ascend to new heights: Climbing through the Lammertal valley, you'll reach the Zwieselalm alpine pasture in the Dachstein-West ski region. The view of the Gosau Glacier is one of the unforgettable highlights of this multi-day mountain bike tour. After the descent to Gosau, the emerald-green Gosausee lake invites you to take a break before the rustic Rossalm mountain hut beckons with a hearty snack and a refreshing shandy. You'll then speed down through the wildly romantic Echerntal valley to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt and finally back to Bad Goisern, where your luggage will be waiting for you at your starting hotel (by 5:30 pm at the latest). Alternative route: From Annaberg, head down the valley to Lindenthal, then continue on the B166 via Rußbach to Gosau (-400 m elevation loss).
