Carinthia Centre cycling tour – Carinthian Lakes and Alpe-Adria 2025
The Carinthian Lakes and Alpe Adria rally is a relaxed cycle tour in the southern region of Austria that is ideal for leisure cyclists and families. You explore some of the 200 or so lakes on well-maintained, mostly tarmac cycle paths without any major inclines. The starting point is the idyllic Faaker See near Villach. The tour takes you to Lake Wörthersee, Lake Ossiach and Klagenfurt. Special highlights include two cross-border day trips to Slovenia and Italy, including a spectacular ride on the old railway line of the Alpe Adria cycle path. The day ends with a relaxing sunset by the lake.

Day 1 - Individual arrival in Villach or at Faaker See
Arrival for your cycling holiday and handover of your individual travel documents.Day 2 - Trip to Lake Ossiach, approx. 55 km
The Seebach stream leads you out of Villach, and soon the impressive ruins of Landskron Castle come into view. The picturesque Lake Ossiach, surrounded by a stunning mountain backdrop, welcomes you with charming lakeside towns and the romantic Ossiach Abbey. The dark green waters invite you for a refreshing swim before you finish your loop back in Villach.Day 3 - Trip to Klagenfurt at Lake Wörthersee, approx. 45 km
The first kilometers follow the Drau River, guiding your way. You cycle through an idyllic landscape that has preserved its natural charm. At the famous Lake Wörthersee, beach resorts, boat tours, and boat rentals provide variety. Through lively holiday towns, you reach Klagenfurt. The return journey is by train back to Villach.Day 4 - Trip along the Alpe Adria Cycle Path from Tarvis to Venzone, approx. 65 km
A short train ride takes you to Tarvis in Italy, a popular sports center. From there, you cycle along the Ciclovia Alpe Adria, a spectacular former railway track with tunnels and bridges high above the Canal Valley. You pass through small Italian villages and pristine nature until you reach Venzone, a medieval town. The return journey is by bike train back to Villach.Day 5 - Trip to Slovenia and Italy, approx. 55 km
After a short train ride to Jesenice, your cycling tour begins in Kranjska Gora, known as the 'Kitzbühel of Slovenia.' You cycle along an old railway track into Italy, reaching the border town of Tarvis, famous for its market and Italian atmosphere. Afterward, you ride back to Austria on the Ciclovia Alpe Adria cycle path, returning to Villach.Day 6 - Trip to Lake Pressegger, approx. 55 km
Take the train to Hermagor and start your cycling tour on the Gailtal Cycle Path. The wide valley, with its pristine nature, leads you along Lake Pressegger, a warm bathing lake. Before reaching Villach, you cycle at the foot of the Dobratsch mountain through a nature reserve created by a historical rockslide. The wide, flat Gail River also offers numerous opportunities for swimming.Day 7 - Individual departure
Individual return journey from the cycling vacation or booking of additional nights.
Parking possibilities:
Depending on the arrival hotel, free, unguarded car park either directly at the hotel or near the hotel.
Note for people with limited mobility
The cycle tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility. However, in specific cases it is possible to accommodate individual customer requests (e.g. barrier-free room).
Passport and visa requirements
To check in to your hotel you will need a valid passport or ID card.
For citizens of countries outside the Schengen area other regulations may apply. You are responsible for obtaining any visa you may require in good time.
Terms and Conditions of Payment:
The deposit of 10% of the tour price is due at the latest 14 days after receipt of the booking confirmation. The balance must be paid 14 days before arrival.
Cancellation Policy:
According to our General Terms and Conditions, the customer may withdraw from the contract at any time in writing. In the event of cancellation or non-commencement of travel, the following cancellation fees will become payable:
20% of the tour price up to 28 days before arrival date
30% of the tour price from 27th to 14th day before arrival date
50% of the tour price from 13th to 8th day before arrival date
70% of the tour price from 7th to 4th day before arrival date
90% of the tour price from 3rd day before arrival date to the day of arrival
If the customer makes changes of the date of travel up to 28 days before departure, we will charge a processing fee of € 50,00 per booking. After this date, the cancellation policy will apply. Such changes to a booking may only be made in individual cases and if possible; the customer has no right to any changes.
