 ### An overview of your cycling trip along the Altmühltal Cycle Path

The Altmühltal Cycle Path links medieval towns, tranquil riverside landscapes and the striking cliffs of the Bavarian Jura.

From **Rothenburg ob der Tauber,** the Altmühltal Cycle Route leads through the Franconian Lake District and the Altmühltal Nature Park. Medieval towns, striking Jura cliffs and castles accompany you via Eichstätt to Kelheim. Many cycling tours continue along the Danube to the UNESCO World Heritage city of **Regensburg**.

The **Altmühltal Cycle Path** is mostly easy to moderate:

- mostly flat stretches along the Altmühl
- well-maintained and signposted cycle paths
- predominantly tarmac or well-surfaced paths
- Daily stages usually between 40 and 75 km, depending on the itinerary
- ideal for leisure cyclists and e-bike riders

There are a few gentle climbs between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Lake Altmühl. A **reasonable level of fitness** and regular cycling experience are an advantage for the daily stages; no specific sporting experience is required.

- **April to June:** blossoming countryside and pleasant temperatures
- **July and August:** long days and bustling stop-off points
- **September and October:** quiet paths and atmospheric autumnal landscapes

May, June and September offer particularly pleasant conditions. For popular weekend and holiday dates, we recommend booking well in advance.
