Itinerary
  • Day 1 - Individual arrival in Passau

Enjoy a stroll through the beautiful old town with the world-largest church organ in the cathedral of Passau and enjoy a delicious “Bavarian Lager” in a typical beer garden before your embarkation is at approx. 4 pm. At 6.30 pm your holiday begins with a cruise through the beautiful Danube Valley.
  • Day 2 - Engelhartszell–Brandstatt, approx. 45 km

The only Trappist monastery in the country is located at the beginning of your cycle and boat trip in Austria: Engelszell Monastery, also famous for aromatic herb schnapps and liqueurs. Close by and right in the middle of it, you cycle along the Danube cycle path through the upper Danube valley, past tranquil villages and through the unspoilt countryside. Small, romantic restaurants along the way invite you to take a break. The scent of freshly grilled Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick) from the Danube is spreading along the cycle path. From the viewing-point Schlögen, high above the Danube, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the natural spectacle of the Donauschlinge.
  • Day 3 - Brandstatt–Linz, approx. 26 km

At noon you will reach Linz, the provincial capital of Upper Austria, on your bike & boat trip. Take the bright yellow slow train (optional) on a discovery tour through the European Capital of Culture 2009. The cathedral is the largest church in Austria, the “Pöstlingbergbahn” the steepest adhesion railway in the world. Curious about the future? In the “ARS Electronica Museum'; you can try out impressive examples of modern technologies for yourself.
  • Day 4 - Mauthausen–Grein, approx. 35 km

A beautiful and varied route along the Danube cycle path lies in front of you! Conquer the idyllic hinterland of Strudengau by bike: the Celtic village of Mitterkirchen, the baroque monastery of Baumgartenberg and the romantic castle of Clam. Look forward to Grein on the Danube, a medieval town with baroque facades, Greinburg Castle and the oldest municipal theatre in Austria. After a romantic light ride with the MS Theodor Körner you reach - like Sisi in the old days - the waltz metropolis Vienna early in the morning.
  • Day 5 - Vienna (day is at leisure)

During a bike sightseeing tour (facultative), you have the opportunity exploring impressive buildings of this great city. Cycling slowly past world famous sights, such as the Prater, St. Stephan Cathedral and the Imperial Palace. The magnificent buildings along the Ringstraße remember on ancient times. In the afternoon, you have enough spare time visiting one of the traditional Viennese coffee shops and in the evening visit a Waltz- or Operetta concert in the Wiener Kursalon (facultative).
  • Day 6 - Wachau round trip, approx. 25-40 km

Today a truly special highlight! The landscape with rolling hills enchants everybody with lovely picturesque villages, apricot trees, vineyards, fortresses, monasteries and ruins. This is pure cycling pleasure! In Weißenkirchen (wine tasting is possible – facultative) you definitely should have a break in one of the charming wine taverns.
  • Day 7 - Weißenkirchen – Pöchlarn, approx. 35 km

You cycle through the idyllic landscape along the Danube cycle path to Spitz. Here you take the ferry to the tranquil southern bank and after a leisurely cycling tour you reach the magnificent, baroque Benedictine monastery of Melk. The visit during the bike & boat trip between Passau and Vienna is a must! From Pöchlarn you can enjoy a wonderful view of the wildly romantic Nibelungengau from the sun deck of the MS Theodor Körner.
  • Day 8 - Arrival in Passau–Individual departure or extra nights

Every holiday comes to an end – enjoy again the peaceful Danube Valley, a last glance onto the Schlögener Schlinge, before reaching Passau with wonderful impressions. Disembarkation at approx. 09:30 am and any transfer reservation for your departure please arranged from approx. 10:30 am.

OÖ Touristik GmbH

In 1990 the OÖ Touristik performed a pioneering work on the sector of organised cycle holidays: the first bookable cycle tour along the Danube including luggage transfer. Already a year later we offered the first group tours. Over the years the offers of the cycle holidays has expanded throughout Europe and are as popular as ever. During the last 30 years we have expanded the portfolio on mountain bike tours, cycle holidays by bike and boat, group tours and hiking holidays as well as winter and wellness holidays. The organisation and handling of international congresses and events meanwhile adds to the successful enterprise sections.
